Doris,
I am not a realtor, rather I am a 15 year resident of Washington Park, a transplant from California. Perhaps I have a small town mentality but when I came to this area I just fell in love. Downtown Washington is along the river and has a promanade along it. There is also a kayak and bicycle rental right outside of Washington Park along with Back Water Jacks a restaurant. Fishing from the train bridge. Senior center down town. Lots of local color and culture. Go to: originalwashington.com this will tell you more. Right now housing prices are good. Anything along the water is high end, good neighborhoods, Pirates Cove, Somerset, Macs Woods, Small Wood, Historic District, Pamlico Village and Pamlico Plantation, Country Club, etc. Hope this was some help.
