We were in the same situation when we found our house a few years ago. Everything went well and I think it may have even helped us during the negotiation. - Wed May 28 2008, 17:57
I live in Cleveland Park. It continues to be an "area in transition" but that doesn't mean it isn't a safe place to live. It does mean that there are still some problems with crime (some blocks have street level drug dealing, that the housing stock is still in the process of being renovated generally, and that there is still a significant need for retail and service related businesses within and nearby.
In the past five years, it has moved from simply being a good investment to being an area that many young families look to for starter homes. We have an active neighborhood association which has worked hard to improve the area (see the website below) and will continue to push for improvements.
It is a very quick commute to downtown and most other parts of town. It only takes 5 minutes to get over to 5 points in the more trendy part of East Nashville and I would suggest that the commercial district is larger than Dena Parker gives it credit it for. Feel free to contact me for more information. - Sun May 11 2008, 14:38
