Okay...I think I get it. :-) I guess my opening question was a bit harsh. I understand everything about the positive aspects of a HOA and like a nice looking place to live...I was more concerned with associations that enjoy sucking every freedom from you they can. I realize that there are good and bad and its just a matter of finding the right one. Thanks for all the great responses...you guys have given me a lot to think about. - Mon Jun 30 2008, 17:31
I am getting some great responses here and really appreciate the feedback! I guess I was a little bit strong on my first statement about condo fees. I totally understand that its a "get what you pay for world" and nothing is free. My biggest concern is a feeling that once owning a condo with fees you are at the mercy of the HOA. Are there any fees that cap out at a certain rate? Or can HOA's continue to raise fees as much as they want each year? Being in the thinking stages...my company has an office in Las Vegas and its pretty simple to transfer for 6 months out of the year...so this may not be entirely for vacations only. I am still looking at all options. I am intrigued by the hotel/short term rental aspect as well. I worked in a different city for over a year back in 2005 and ended up getting an apt there because I didn't like living in a hotel...but in Vegas that might not be a bad thing. Services and resturaunts at your fingertips...Just don't know if I want to waste money on rent if indeed I end up working there 6 months out of the year. Thanks again! - Sun Jun 29 2008, 10:42
Hi Cameron,
Thanks for the quick response. I have done some research and have seen that condo associations can become ridiculous with rules, regulations and fees going up yearly. Since I don't care about having a pool, clubhouse or any other ammenities with my condo, I would prefer to find something without fees. If that isn't possible, then I guess I should start looking for a small single family home. I don't plan on living in vegas year round, but wanted to use it as a vacation home, so I thought that a condo would be the simplist answer for me. Still in the investigation/thinking stage right now so any advice would be appreciated! thanks! - Sun Jun 29 2008, 08:07
