I went to Horizon in the 5th grade and my mother taught 4th grade a few years ago.
The school was doing poorly, discipline wise, when it first began. After Mr. Berry (the principal and founder) realized that the school would gain more students if they expelled or took care of misbehaving students, the school began to take off. It went from only high school (with about 42 students) to K-12 with hundreds of students. The education is good Christian education. The teachers are nice. Mr. Berry is an excellent principal. Horizon is one of the better schools in Cumming. - Mon Apr 7 2008, 20:17
I live in Cumming and I attend West Forsyth High School (in its inaugural year).
I can't really help you with the neighborhoods because it all depends on preference but here are some tidbits of information you might want to know...
Most schools in Cumming (the only city in Forsyth) are rather small.
West Forsyth High was just built as a relief school and is large (two stories) with many options for classes.
North Forsyth High's building was used as a middle school in the past. therefore it has more narrow halls and smaller buildings.
I can not tell you much about South Forsyth and Central Forsyth besides that they both have wonderful arts programs (drama...etc.).
Most middle schools are similar here. Liberty is more out in the middle of no where.
I do not have any information on elementary schools.
As for crime, my mother spoke to a police officer who works in Cumming, and he informed her that Cumming has a higher crime rate than Atlanta currently does. It does not seem like it to me, but it is somewhat believable.
Also something you should consider is location in Cumming. The is not much to do. They have built more plazas in downtown Cumming with a bowling alley, Dick's Sporting Goods, Old Navy, etc. But most things are 20-45 minutes away in other cities. Just keep that in mind.
