Is the landlord or tenant responsible for the cost of water for lawn sprinklers?

From the tenant side....we are required to pay the water bill. The problem is that I'm pretty sure there is a big leak somewhere (in the irrigation system) because the water bill is outrageous ($600) when we first moved in. We asked for this to be investigated, but it went no where. Now, we are in a drought with mandatory restrictions and we are being blamed for the lawn being less lush. My view is that their irrigation was just placed poorly. We've even tried to do fixes. So, I have no idea what we are supposed to do. I would recommend a system that is fair to both parties.

P.S. I am a landlord too and pay the water bill. That irrigation works well and is quite affordable. - Wed Aug 20 2008, 21:59
