Cara, Here is the info that we have here on Trulia. If you look at the bottom of the page there is a chart that will give you "Crime Stats" This is the basic info that we get from public sites. This is just an easy place to get an overview. If you would like some thing more detailed I would check with the local police sites or city offices they can give you any details that you need. Remember it is a matter of public record.
Photos are very important. Here at Trulia we did a study on what our users are looking at and a majority of the the time the user clicked straight through to the photos first then went on to look for information. A professional photographer might not be necessary but a good digital camera with a high resolution is highly recommended. Hope this helps. - Tue Jul 31 2007, 14:13

The East Bay is a great neighborhood for young couples. Berkley, North Oakland, Rockridge area is one of my favorites it has an educated population (lots of Berkley grad students) with lots of shops and restaurants. It is very close to BART so that commuting is very easy.
Check out the link below it is to the Heat Map for Oakland the zip of the neighborhood I am speaking about is 94618 - Mon Jul 23 2007, 15:53
George, Just to give you my two cents I think that any neighborhood around Dolores Park. Mainly the Mission and the Castro are excellent. Dolores park is very dog friendly as well as having many other dog owners to hang out with. Plus the views of the city are incredible. Like I said just my two cents the link that Megan gave you below is also very useful. - Thu Jul 19 2007, 12:17
