One more thing...I'm also military, so if you want a good perspective on housing relative to a specific base, I'll be happy to help! - Wed Apr 30 2008, 14:57
Jamie~ I'm not sure but can definitely drive down the street on my way to work tomorrow. One thing to keep in mind about this area is there are pockets of crime with wonderful neighborhoods only a couple of streets away. It was a bit unnerving for me, too, when I moved from California. This applies to some of the best neighborhoods anywhere in this area, Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Portstmouth. Don't rely solely on the crime reports because in some instances, they can be misleading about a specific area. - Wed Apr 30 2008, 14:53
Overall, yes. Ann Street runs through two different housing areas, West Park View and Park View. West Park View is a wonderful little community that most of the residents consider one of Portsmouth's best kept secrets. West Park View is a very family oriented, neighborly, safe area where people run, walk their dogs, let their kids play, etc. There is a very active Civic League, as well as a neighborhood watch program. Park View, although it has seen a great deal of improvement, is still a bit edgy. It is a historic district so there are wonderful old houses, but there are also some not-so-wonderful houses. Overall, it's a fairly safe area, but I would definitely recommend West Park View over Park View. - Tue Apr 29 2008, 19:03
