I've played Calippe many times. It's a very nice course and a great deal for everyone but even better for Pleasanton residents. It's a new course so still has some maturing to do but again, it's very nice. Does tend to be a bit windy though but not bad.
On Castlewood - the course is very well maintained and not overplayed. It''s quite easy to get on as a member, regardless of day of week. The facilities are nice - great pool and snack bar. Nice driving range- a little short for the really long hitters but again, very accessible. They have bunker and green practice areas that are a great help. The pro shop has fantastic staff all of whom are great teachers for both adults and kids.
On Hearst Elementary - I know it well. My kids both attend there. We love it. From the Principal (Mr. Kufahl) on down there is a complete dedication to the kids. The parents get very involved (in a good way) and there is a very strong sense of community. They offer an after school Kids Club that is fantastic but takes a lottery to get in. My kids won that lottery and love all the staff and kids at Kids Club.
My personal take - If you're going to live in Pleasanton you should shoot for a home in Castlewood and kids at Hearst. It's an unbeatable combination.

Hi - I just happened to see your question. We live in Castlewood and are members at the club. We just love it. The membership is full of very interesting and engaging people. The club is also quite family friendly with a great pool and tennis and golf facilities. The two golf courses here offer a diverse golf experience with The Valley course playing flatter and an easy walk and the Hill course truly living up to its name.
Castlewood is located in one of the few non-windy areas of the valley. It really makes a difference both for golf and living. You can really enjoy the nice weather. The other thing we like about Castlewood is the privacy of the homes. We know our neighbors well but really only see them if we make an effort to. The views are great. The neighborhood is a real gem.
