I'm moving to the upper east side, 89th between 1st and 2nd... any advice on the area?

For crime statistics for your area (the 19th precinct), go to the NYC.gov site listed below. For a demographic picture of the neighborhood, try putting your address into a site, http://www.propertyshark.com/mason/, which will give you all kind sof demographic information on the area, including ages, race, income, etc. of your neighborhood. You have to register at Property Shark, but the info is free. I have lived in this neighborhood for over 30 years and raised a daughter here. It is not as interesting as some areas, but it is safe and convenient. If you are a young professional, you will find a lot of others in your category. Good luck. - Thu Mar 20 2008, 15:05

You can try PropertyShark.com or Zillow.com. Also, try Googling the exact address in quotes. Often, real estate ads will come up that have a description and price for a particular unit(s). Sometimes, even the building itself is a source, with specifications for prices for various size units. You can also try the New York Times real estate ads online; if you specify just a street name, it is possible that the building is listed, with prices. This works, as well, for various real estate companies. - Thu Mar 20 2008, 14:27
