David answered:
I would not pay more than 300K for it. - Fri Feb 15 2008, 10:25

How big was the home? I am a current Mountain House resident. There are so many nice homes in the resale market, shorts sales, foreclosures, etc... I don't think you should pay more than $160 /sq ft. Think about what would happen if you need to sell the house in the near future. What if the market drops another 20%, you would lose all your capital. I went to a new development in Mt. House and the sales told me some of their homes are sold out. I LAUGHED INISIDE MY HEAD. How could there be a sold out when there are foreclosures & short sales everywhere? It is sold out because the builder stopped construction. Also, buy only from the first three villages. I don't think there is enough demand to keep building in the fourth village. If you really like the house, offer them $140 - $150/sq ft to begin with. Just do it politely :) I still think Mt. House is a good long term investment. This is the closest Master-planned city next to the bay area, ~ 40% cheaper than Livermore. - Sun Feb 10 2008, 20:19

David answered:
Eruc, I used to live in Fremont. I like Mt. House more. In the bay area, they are building some new houses/condo in existing neighborhood, but in some areas, they are not building or expanding schools. In the Warmspring area, KB & Robson home are building some new homes, but the school has to turn away new students because of overcrowding. We don't have this problem here because is master planned. If you plan to raise a family, Mt House might be a good long term investment. - Sat Jan 26 2008, 22:23

What is the fiber-optic broadband like in Mountain House?

David answered:
With fiber, It is not a big deal now. I think my AT&T DSL is more reliable compare to my copper DSL in San Jose. The big different would be interactive TV when AT&T rollout Uverse in 2008. - Sat Jan 26 2008, 22:13
David answered:
I commute the San Jose, I leave about 7:10am in the morning, drive to the Livermore Vasco ACE train station. The train leave Vasco around 7:41 and get to the Great America station around 8:45, there are free shuttles to various places in Santa Clara. You can sleep and play with your laptop during the ride. It is much easier than driving.

If you drive, it is best to leave after 8:45am. On a good day, it takes about 1hr 10 min to drive to San Jose. On the way back, try to leave San Jose after 7:30pm to avoid the 680 congestion. - Sat Jan 26 2008, 22:02
