Lots of vacant houses in BR because many folks are moving OUT of the city, into the suburbs with NEWER houses; the Gonzales/Prairieville area in Ascension Parish and the Denham Springs/Walker/Watson sections of Livingston Parish, both of which border East Baton Rouge Parish. - Wed Feb 13 2008, 13:54

The area around the University was hit pretty hard during and after Katrina. And since the whole city was impacted by flooding, rental property is at a premium with rents ranging from $2000 a month to a rented room for $400 a month. If you are going to be working or attending school at UNO you might inquire with the University. They may have information on housing. - Sun Feb 3 2008, 15:46
