Thanks everybody for the responses!!! You were all quick to catch how confused I am about LA and it's geography (I promise never to use the word "downtown" again)...so all the info you all are giving me is exactly what I need. Let me clarify my current situation - I am 26 years old and currently live in the Washington DC metro area. Having lived in more suburban areas for most of my life, I am interested in living in a more urban area that would provide easy access to local restaurants, shopping, coffee shops, lounges, etc. I fully realize that LA is a commuting town, but I would like to have some areas that are walkable and close-by as well. My primary goal is to be able to experience everything LA has to offer, from the people, places, beach (no need to live near it though) and city-life in general. I'm starting to think that the Easy Hollwyood-type area might be more my style. Are there any downsides to that area? Any other ideas on what areas to check out based on my comments? Once again, thank you all for your excellent comments!!! - Tue Jul 8 2008, 17:07
