Thanks for the feedback. I figured there'd be no recourse but I wanted to check. I think there should be a higher burden on potential buyers. If a seller takes their home off the market during inspection contingencies, the buyer should be required to follow through with their inspection unless something significant wasn't disclosed by the seller. That would eliminate the problem of buyers such as these who are perpetually cancelling contracts in search of a better deal.
My agent did screen the offer and they had solid financing. Since we found out they had backed out of a previous contract, we did shorten the inspection contingency to two weeks. So at least my home was only off the market that shorter period of time. However, I also worry future potential buyers will find out a past contract fell through during inspection contingencies and assume there's something seriously flawed with my property. - Tue Aug 12 2008, 09:10
