As a recent buyer (and current seller) in Detroit Metro, I can tell you that the interent is the only resource I have used for buying homes. I typically skip listings that don't have any photos and almost always check out the virtual tours.
Since I wanted to sell before I bought another house I had not planned to view any houses so soon. However browsing through the websites I saw a home with a great virtual tour. I must point out that I had absolutely ruled out buying another split level home, however the place looked so appealing on the photos and tour that I couldn't resist calling the realtor for a look. We liked the house, but didn't want to rush, so we kept looking and preparing our own home for the market. However, I kept checking online to see if that house had sold. Each time I saw the photos and tours I found myself imagining living there and where we'd put all our stuff. I basically fell in love with the place online.
In the end we broke down and put in an offer (we close next month). I'm hoping for the same kind of success with my current property using the same techniques as I feel that the interenet was pivotal in getting us to buy our new home.
Thanks everyone - these were some really great answers! If things continue this way for a little while longer I expect we will look at the price again. For now, I just got a call for my second showing. Fingers crossed!! - Fri Sep 28 2007, 13:04
