We are interested in an old southern property, but are concerned with the neighborhood. Should we risk it?

We've lived in Oakleigh for 9 years. We have two small children and feel that it is a great community. The more people that move in and fix up the homes, the better it gets. We've only seen improvements in the area since moving into our home and our house has more than doubled in value. It's a very caring, active, & proud community. - Wed Jun 4 2008, 12:23

I work at the Mobile Infirmary Hospital and have also worked at USA campus. While your fiance will be taking many classes on campus, they will also be traveling to the hospitals more in midtown. I live in the Oakleigh area and we have several medical students in the neighborhood. We bought our house in 1999 and it has more than doubled in price since then. I think Oakleigh is a great investment---especially with all the EADS/Brookley jobs and growth. It's a beautiful neighborhood with great neighbors and a fun neighborhood association. I would definitly think about it! I believe there are several houses for sale in Oakleigh right now. We live on Selma St. and love it. - Tue Apr 29 2008, 08:09
