Try to sell by owner first. Realtors will tell you that they screen people that view your home, but that's a bunch of hogwash. They will tell you that they will help with the paperwork, but an attorney can do all that for you for a few hundred dollars (and provide you with real legal advice!).
If that doesn't work, try a flat-fee realtor. There are a lot of them out there, so do your homework before you sign on the dotted line. Why should you pay someone 3% just to put up a sign in front of your home and list your home on the MLS when you can do it yourself for a few hundred dollars??? - Fri Nov 9 2007, 17:19
