Hi Nancy, You will love North Carolina. We bought our home here on the outskirts of Conover, NC, which is only 15 minutes from Hickory and all the major stores. Conover is a lovely village with small town charm. Has a great library, antique shops and a couple of nice restaurants. A new Walmart sets just on the outskirts of town along with a new Burger King and a new Zackbys chicken. Conover has lovely parks that are beautifully decorated at Christmas time as well as a wonderful old fashion type Main Street. It has recently been completely redone with brick , new lanterns, trees and everything that makes it so charming.
Sad to say, we have to move to Illinois and have recently listed our 1900 sq. ft. home on approx. 1 acre. We have done so much work on landscaping, a new wood barn for storage, and completely remodeled the inside as well. It was built in 1998 and has had a lovely sunroom added to the rear of the home. We sit just on the outskirts of Conover. We have woods backing up to our rear lawn. So the privacy is wonderful.
We hate to leave but our business in lawn and landscaping is waiting in Illinois. I hope you get your home sold soon in Ocala and get to move to North Carolina. By the way, we love being near the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is great for a Sunday ride in the cool mountain air. The prices here in our area are very reasonable , what with the housing crunch and all but even in good times, they certainly are in the middle price range of other locations. Good luck to you.
