You could also give Grant Park a look. A former neighbor in my townhouse community was stationed out of Fort McPherson and had no toruble with the drive. It's a little closer in town, and accessible to downtown, Turner Field, neat intown neighborhoods, restaurants, shops, etc. We have a townhouse for sale, but still live in the neighborhood. Please feel free to check it out, if for no other reason than comparison's sake to get a feel for the market- - Fri Dec 21 2007, 19:20
Grant Park. You can cut through Lakewood to I-85 and be at Hartsfield-Jakcson in 10-15 minutes at rush hour. My wife and I live at the southern end of Grant Street, she works past the airport and has a 15-minute commute on a bad day. We can see planes all the time, but never hear them. - Fri Dec 14 2007, 07:07
Go with the south side of Grant Park, like the previous posts suggested. Tons of development planned for southern end of Grant Street, where you'll be able to walk to Grant Park, ATL's oldest park, and ATL's newest park, set to begin development in '08. Also right next door to ATL mounted police pastures, so you can stroll past grazing horses in the middle of the city! You also will have a 10-minute drive to the airport. - Fri Dec 14 2007, 07:05
Check out the periphery of Grant Park - there is a ton of development planned on the Southwestern corner of the neighborhood (the Southern end of Grant Street at Grant Circle), including mixed-use, condos, and single-family homes, that might fall right into your wheelhouse from a timing perspective. Also some neat things going on in the Boulevard Heights area at the Southeastern corner of Grant Park. Either way, you're 10 minutes from the airport, 5 from downtown, and walking to Grant Park as well as brand new ATL city park planned for Englewood and Blvd. Good luck! - Fri Dec 14 2007, 07:01
I agree with George - Grant Park is a great neighborhood, with an outstanding charter school for the kids. My wife and I live in a townhome in the area, are selling one (we met as neighbors and consolidated), and hope to be in the neighborhood for years to come, to start a family in Grant Park. You can also talk to our real estate agent - she has tons of intown listings (including ours)- - Wed Dec 12 2007, 11:48
