About Me
Worcester homeowner looking to buy a different property (the ex is keeping own house). I am looking in the 01602 area code (where I live now) and I want at least 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. I have liked a few things but I'm sure there is more out there I haven't found yet.

worcester predictions: good or bad?

Stephanie answered:
I have to disagree with Michael. I own a home in the west side of worcester. The town defintely has rough areas but every change I've seen since 2001 (when I first began living in worcester) has been positive. We have 11 colleges, the DCU center, hordes of new swanky resturaunts, 290 and the 146/pike interchange is finally done, and the overhaul is really nice. I have lived in Boston as well, and it was wonderful, but I wouldn't leave Worcester for Boston now or ever. I have all of it here and it's a quick train ride from beautiful Union station or a quick hop on the pike if I ever want to visit. Come on over, you won't regret it! - Mon Apr 21 2008, 08:56

What is the neighborhood like around UMass?

Stephanie answered:
Liz,
yeah be very, very cautious. I cannot stress enough how dangerous that area is (I am a homeowner not a real estate agent so I can legally say that) and to make sure you take a look carefully before signing anything. Drug raids, sirens and all manner of nonsense are pretty common over that way. - Mon Apr 21 2008, 08:49
Stephanie answered:
Allright, so I'm no real estate Guru, but I have a little recent experience with this market. I bought my first home back in October, a little single family cape. Here I am in April, my house is worth $5,000 than when I bought it and I am going to buy a smaller house whilst my ex lives in this one. Prices are ridiculously lower for the same area code, same minimum bed and bath in 01602. That said, I'd say prices are going down, and will likely continue to fall. However, with a presidential election coming up, I shouldn't wonder that they may taper off or even improve a bit around November. Thoughts? - Mon Apr 21 2008, 08:45
Stephanie answered:
Tracey, yep, you pay for it all. But, thankfully, since the house is being purchased, really the buyer is coughing up the money. Good luck! - Mon Apr 21 2008, 08:41

What are the nice areas to buy a house around worcester, ma?

Stephanie answered:
Honestly, the only places to look in Worcester are 01602 or 01609, Especially with the range you are talking about, I would look at places like Moreland (lots of Tudors), Salisbury(victorians and old money), Moreland Green(McMansions), and anywhere in the "highlands" or Worcester, which is exactly what it sounds like, in the hills. Take out a map. Look at the Paxton or Holden end of things, That's where to head, my friend. Happy hunting! - Mon Apr 21 2008, 08:38

Interests
I like interior decorating, cosmetology and dermatology, hair cutiing and styling, painting, drawing, fiction reading, creative writing, singing, dancing, and theater. My hobbies include all of the above. For my day job I am a clinician working for the MSPCC in Worcester. I really love children, I work primarily with kids, but I enjoy a night out with the 20-somethings too! I also work for the Boys and Girls Club with at-risk teens and run groups through MSPCC for adolescent girls and another for parents for people dealing with trauma. I am currently planning a benefit project for women in abusive relationships to be held on the day in August I was supposed to get married ( the week before Christmas my ex decided not to go through with it). I also go to graduate school full time at Assumption College for psychology. As you might guess, I'm pretty busy. But I don't care! I love my life and I wouldn't change a thing!
