Thanks for the answers. I should have been more specific. I'm relocating for a job because of corporate downsizing - I no longer have a job in Kansas City. - Thu Aug 21 2008, 09:23
Hello. If you live in the DC area then you are no stranger to bad traffic. Atlanta has some of the worst. I am currently in the process of moving back to Atlanta (job relocation) after being gone for 4 years. While I don't have children to consider with schools - my first priority is to find a home close to work. Quality of life is important and to spend 2 to 3 hours a day commuting back and forth to work is not worth it. (That's to go about 50 miles mind you.) Anyway - you didn't mention what part of town you will be working in. Atlanta goes by counties - not cities - when identifying areas to live in. Fulton County has the highest property taxes in the metro area. Forsyth County taxes are the lowest. Cobb County and Gwinnett County each have nice areas and some not so nice areas - just like anyplace. My suggestion - do some online research for areas near where you work, then find a good realtor that specializes in those areas. As a rule of thumb - the further out from downtown Atlana you live - the cheaper your house price tag and the longer and more time-consuming and frustrating your commute will be. Good luck! - Tue Jul 8 2008, 18:52
