At the end of the lease term, tenancy automatically reverts to what is known as "month to month". This means that at any point the landlord may ask the tenant to move (landlord MUST give 30 days notice). Hello M. There is not max on the rent; but a landlord in NJ cannot require more than one and a half month rent for security deposit. They also can require one month rent up front when the lease is signed.
