One thing I wish I had known about SoMa is that there is really a lack of greenery. Maybe that's not important to some, but despite the benefit of proximity to the interstates and new construction there, it feels a bit like a concrete jungle. Really, the only park is South Park, which is very small, so if you want to chill outside on a nice day, you're heading to another 'hood. The other thing is that, during baseball season, it's very hard to eat dinner out since most restaurants are pretty packed with baseball fans.... more
I've lived in my Pacific Heights apartment for several years now. I live on top of a hill and feel extremely thankful that I have coin laundry in my building, but have heard from friends in my neighborhood that not all apartments have laundry, meaning many residents have to walk down to Fillmore or Polk street to do laundry.
I have found that my unit (faces Franklin) needed double paned windows to block out street noise from the "Franklin Freeway."
I don't have a car, and am walking distanced to Whole Foods, so that is my go-to grocery store. I am very happy not having a car, but have gotten used to the idea that I am completely over-paying for groceries.... more
