Public transportatoin in Houston is always do-able as in most large cities, but as I suggest in Texas, it is best to own a car. That is unless you live very close to work/school. Houston is so large that it prevents you from enjoying much of what the city has to offer.

The trains run 24 hours a day. I live close to them . . . and of course I have many buyers ask the same question. A while back I called to find out if there was a schedule. Amtrack has a schedule (it's not punctual), but the freight trains do not. They run after they are loaded at the ship channel. Ships arrive and depart at all different times of day. Therefore, these trains do the same and are not set on any schedule. They leave when they are loaded.... more
Houston has METRO bus service fulfilling the needs of most of the city. Some peripheral areas are not serviced as well. The city is growing so rapidly, the public transportation system has trouble finding new routes fast enough.... more
