I know that City of Houston and Harris County are being very diligent about spraying because of the number of deaths from West Nile. I'm sure the frequency varies from area to area, and I'd have to know about where you live/want to live to be more helpful. As for anything else you can do, what I've heard and read is: 1) don't go out in early morning hours or dusk hours; 2) use a spray and use plenty of it, and it should contain Deet: and 3) watch your own yard for standing water and eiminate that. Item 3 could help in both the mosquito attracting problem and the preservation of the integrity of your slab foundation ( if you have one, and most of us do in this area!). After 38 years, you'd think I'd be burned-out, but I find that I am energized with buyers and sellers both who are committed to working as a team member with me.... more
There are several parks in Houston to run in. I would say that it is pretty safe to run Terry Hershey park and Memorial Park by yourself during the day, but I would not run anywhere by yourself at night. Going back to the previous questions about the bar scene, Washington is a good place to bar hop and Memorial park is very close to that area. You may want to start your search close to that area. Hope this helps!

The two largest parks in Houston are Memorial Park and Hermann Park. Both have golf courses open to the public. Hermann Park sits on the edge of Rice University and the Texas Medical Center, and includes the Houston Zoo, Miller Outdoor Theater, and a Japanese Garden. Memorial Park is located north of River Oaks and offers tennis courts, softball fields, and several bike and running/exercise trails. Dog parks are just coming into their own. Our most attractive dog park is west of Houston and called Millie Bush Dog Park. There are 2 pools for larger dogs and a separate area and pool for smaller dogs. It's worth the drive!... more
