Well, I think that color is a personal choice, but if you are doing this to attact home buyers... the salesman was correct about dark colors, and white tends to be too much/bright for others (I think it is a fear of how to keep it clean looking and pristine). I'd go with the middle tone. If by pebble beach you mean a sandy color. I think that would go nicely and be the 'neutral' to go with... Only one opinion of course.
I do not think a different flooring will make a large difference since you are talking a different level of the home. If it was the same level, I would suggest staying with the same. You can get a newer , more updated look with a newer flooring on one level that may in fact bring your home up a notch with younger buyers. Always remember- nothing too drastic in color , texture etc. You want the home to flow from one room to next or one floor to the next.... more
