What can be done about a closing date not being met?
One thing you cant count on is USDA funding and closing dates are always an estimate. Talk to your lender as they should have an idea when you should be able to close.

You can negotiate a closing date far enough in the future to allow yourself time to find and close on a prospective property. A good agent should be able to facilitate this.

closing dates are usually flexible but there are some expiration dates you have to watch for
appraisal,
commitment,
short sale approval.
