Short Sale for canadian citizen

Asked by Abril, Oregon Tue May 12, 2009

I'm a canadian citizen with a home in the US market for short sale. I currently live in Canada. Does anyone knows if I can buy a home here in Canada while having a home in US for short sale?.

That is a lender question. It is up to you to disclose your situation. My guess is that your problems will cross the border and follow you North but the fact is that the form in Canada may not specifically ask that. If you find out you can get a home in Canada with a short down here than more power to you!

That will only open a bigger flood gate of people leaving the State on the news of an increase in State Income tax to 11% form 9%. Yikes!

Ok. Good luck and let us know how it goes....eh??

Dirk, thanks for your answer. I'm in fact pre-approved to buy a home in Toronto. I'm just afraid of some legal implications down the road. In the application form for the mortgage down here nothing outside canada matters (i.e previous employer, previous home, etc.). Just for the fact I lived here before and have good credit score then I'm pre-approved. I'm having difficulties finding further information on this matter.

Any suggestions?.
