Why are there so many expired or cancelled listings on Trulia?

Asked by Jonathan Bowen, Dorchester, MA Mon Jan 26, 2009

Most of the questions that I have been answering lately have been from home buyers asking about listings they found on Trulia that are either expired or cancelled. What's the isue?!

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for the examples. The properties cited in the questions below are not shown as active listings on our site and I think some who find these non-active property pages on our site simply don't realize this. I'll be sure to share this with our team. Perhaps we can adjust this page to better-indicate that these properties are not actually for sale.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention!

Hi Emily, here are a few examples:

There are also other questions about other properties that I noticed and didn't bother to answer.

Hi Jonathan,

If you can provide me with an example or two, that would be helpful. If we are showing expired or canceled listings as active, then we need to do some investigating, however if many people just happen to be asking questions about non-active listings on our site, that doesn't necessarily indicate that a problem exists.

Thank you,

Good question. I haven't investigated. I only know that I have answered a lot of questions recently from people who are asking about properties that have either recently expired or have been recently cancelled in the MLS.

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for your question. Just to clarify, are you referring to properties that we show as active listings on our site, or those for which we show prior sale and public record information? If you can let me know, I'll do my best to address your question.

Thank you,
