Esi,
There are many towns/boroughs in Bergen County that would serve you and your family well with regard to community, schools, and commuting distance to New York City. I've included online links to valuable information on 2008 rankings for schools in the county and many towns have received special recognition and awards for what they offer. For example, Oakland, NJ was awarded accolades by Business Week Magazine as being one of the Top Fifty Towns To Raise Your Children and the two high schools that serve this community are in the top 25 and top 50 rankings in Bergen County for 2008. The very best way to determine the solution to your question is to obtain both online and offline information, which is readily available. I have a library of information and links on my website. Do your online research with a few of the links I've provided, select a knowledgeable Realtor in the specific areas of interest who have both a strong track record with relocation and transactions in their area of expertise for your actual search process and tours of the towns of interest. Send a few emails to Realtors that serve these areas to see how responsive they are and what type of information they provide you with. Choose the one that appears most knowledgeable and helpful in providing solutions for you. A top Realtor can help you hone in on what community fulfills your needs the best and assist you in finding the best choice in homes for your family and return on investment. Feel free to contact me or post here, should you have any further questions. Good luck to you in your search and may I welcome you to Bergen County, as well - an excellent choice for you!

Waldwick has a great school system and easy transportation to NYC by bus, train, or car. The other advantage is that Waldwick houses are priced significantly lower than those in the immediately surrounding towns of Ridgewood, Ho-ho-kus, Allendale, and Saddle River.

Umm Fair Lawn is a decent school district but has slipped over the last 10 years for a variety of reasons. It is clearly not the best scholl district in bergen county. While it is very subjective as to "the best school districts" one resource is the NJ magazine rankings. Historically, the best school districts corresponds to the more wealthier towns ie Ridgewood, Tenafly, ramapo (franklin Lakes), Allendale, Ramsey etc..... Unfortuantely, those towns usually have higher home prices and taxes

Montvale, NJ is always given very high marks for its school system and my kids went to the schools there. excellent SAT scores for high schoolers. Train or bus to midtown, 45 minutes by car. Use Ana Moniz at Coldwell Banker in Ridgewood. Anacl@aol.com.

I prefer my old neighborhood in Glenwood. I also suggest Englewood, Maywood and Teaneck. However, it would help to know your price rage specifications. Also knowing the approximate square footage needed would make your search easier. Visit me online and look at the properties I have for sale in Berger County.

Have you considered the Mid-Hudson Valley, specifically, Westwood, Washington Twp, Hillsdale, Park Ridge, Montvale, etc? Great schools and close proximity to NYC.
