have 3 children ages 8 and under. How does Punta Gorda compare to Cape Coral? Also, does anyone know of a really GOOD agent - that actually will work to get you the best home and price without all the baloney!!

I am answering this as a homebuyer myself. I had to choose between Port Charlotte and Cape Coral when I came to florida. I chose Port Charlotte. Boy did I dodge a bullet. I absolutely loath Cape Coral. The traffic is horrible, There are too many rude people, it is close to nothing, It takes forever just to get to the freeway (I-75), I could go on and on. Port Charlotte is much better. Although the choice of restaurants is seriously lacking here. I love living here.

Hi,
I have to tell you, I recently moved to Punta Gorda in June of 07 from Bradenton. I chose PG because it has a much lower crime rate!! I'm saving $250 on my car insurance in Punta Gorda!!! That's the difference!! Punta Gorda is a very safe place to live, has a lot fewer people than Cape Coral, the schools are decent, and very family oriented.

I highly recommend Fisherman's Village Realty, Melissa was my agent and she is great. Down to earth, honest, open. http://www.mypuntagordarentals.com or fishermans-village-realty.com

Pat and Elaine Martin own the Fishermans Realty brokerage and they too are great people.
There office number is 941-575-2502.

I hope this helped!

Hi Theresa,

What area of Punta Gorda were you thinking? I live in the area and also have three children. Please give me a call or email and I can go over the different areas. If you visit my website it has a description and photos of every community from Punta Gorda to Sarasota. There are some pretty good deals right now with some of the foreclosed property.

I'm a Florida native so I'm pretty familiar with the area :)

Hi Theresa,

Its a few months since you asked the question and if you are still looking - Punta Gorda is by by far the choice. I moved to Punta Gorda in 1996 and have loved it ever since. It is a small city. We are growing but keeping the old town feel. In the past few years Punta Gorda has blossomed and is still a safe place with a low crime rate.

I am writing a blog in parts so that should give you a good idea about Punta Gorda.

I am with Punta Gorda Realty. We are a family oriented Real Estate Office and have been in business for over 30 years. I work with agents who have been in this business for 30 years or more and we work together. We would like to work with you.

I moved here from MA two years ago with my two younger children, then ages 11and 16. My son (16) was able to find a job that he could ride his bike to (safely) and my daughter really connected with the band program at her school. The new middle school is state-of-the-art, with caring committed teachers. The new high school which should be ready for occupancy soon, will be equally state-of-the-art. I find the proximity of shopping, dining, activities etc. very convenient. Punta Gorda has a small town feel but with a certain sophistication and character.

Punta Gorda is definitely the better town to choose, I moved here when my daughter was 2 and there are so many activities and fun things for her to do. She is 10 now and we go to Englewood beach almost every week to hunt for sharks teeth, snorkel and go boating and fishing. If your family is the "outdoors" type, you will definitely like Punta Gorda better. There is hardly any crime and the people are really friendly....I agree with the prior blog about there being a lack of restaurants, but we go to Ft Myers for that as a road trip.
Good Luck on your search!

Theresa,
Punta Gorda and Cape Coral are both areas tha people identify with for boating activite. Because of its location there is more of an attraction of boaters than beach goers. Both residents of Cape Coral and Punta Gorda travel to Ft. Myers of Venice to enjoy area beach activity. Punta Gorda is definitely more rural then Cape Coral and has the quaint charm of a historical fishing town.
Without a doubt a great family location.
If you are still interested in the area and woould like to hear another agents perspective, we would be happy to hear from you.
Good luck,
