Barbara,
Actually I would agree with Herbert. He has most of the sites you need to check and definitely look at Craigslist.org. I found my son a place off of Craigslist for when he transferred schools from Georgia to NC.

Best resource--get a copy of the Sunday Chapel Hill News real estate section--their classifieds combined with a separate classified paper (called "The Advocate") some years ago. There are roommate as well as separate apartment listings. Many older houses in CH have small apartments built in and these can be very reasonable and a good choice. They're usually advertised in the paper, although some real estate agents in town manage these as well. The Daily Tar Heel (student newspaper) has rental listings as well. Craigslist is another good option.

Check out http://www.housingmaps.com. It is a cross between Google Maps and the rental ads on Craigslist. Select "Raleigh" and then drag the map over to Chapel Hill. Useful way to see rental opportunities visually.

Additionally, you might check out
Chapel Hill Rent, http://www.chapelhillrent.com - seems to be a solid listing site for rentals.

Also, I think that a few rental groups are

Sounds like you may be looking for a roommate situation? You may want to try looking on Craigslist - many students in the area post available rooms there.

I was not sure if you are thinking about renting or owning. There are some great opportunities if you are interested in purchasing a place and want a room-mate. Many of the 2 bedroom townhouses and condo developments seemed to be thinking of the room-mate situation. They have two large bedrooms with separate baths. Even on the bus-line. You did not mention a price range, but there are certainly affordable opportunities. If you decide you would like to work with a Realtor, please do contact me. I am certain we can find a place to meet your needs.
If you are looking for a rental I can put you in contact with a company that may have an opportunity for you.
