Union City offers a great deal for many first time home buyers. There have been new developments in the area that have brought up the level of housing in the last couple of years. The technology hub around HWY 237 has also made Union City a great town for those who are trying to avoid long commutes.

I actually live in Union City and have for 24 years. I think Union city is in the BEST location in the bay area for commuting to any major jpart of the bay. San Jose is just 18 miles south, Oakland is only 16 miles north, You can cross the Dumbarton Bridge and be in Palto Alto for great shopping or head up to San Mateo both within 20 to 30 minutes. and then there is the City San Francisco. Catch the bart or drive it is only about 40 miles or about 50 minutes to get there. I can also drive to the beach Santa Cruz in less than 1 hour. If I am going east it is always a REVERSE commute. and the drive back from say Pleasanton or Livermore is easy because all the traffic is going the other direction. You see people may bang on Union city for what ever reason but after living here in the 7 hills neighborhood and I have raised 2 girls through the school system. My neighborhood is quite and very safe. We have a park in our neighborhood and the local dog park is just across from mission blvd. There are homes up here in say the 500k to 700k range. There are other areas in Union City that I could show you. One in fact is just across from where I live. The tract was built about 8 years ago and the homes in that neighbor are all very well maintained. There also are a few bank owned REO'S in that area that would be a great bargin right now. The homes are from 3 to 4 bedroom 2 to 3 baths some with 3 car garages. It is in a great location in regard to the distance to bart the freeway Fremont and Hayward.
