Is there a condo inventory database for Chicago?

Asked by Mitch, MPLS Thu Jan 10, 2008

Something that shows how many units a complex has and how many that have been sold to date. Does anyone know if something like this exists for the area? Thanks a million!

Hi Mitch:

Actually, there is a way to do that on the MLS, as well, with customized reports. An agent can enter address, unit numbers, timeframe, etc., and get the very type of data you seek.

Thank you for your responses. I am aware of MLS, but am wondering if there is a quicker way to gauge the housing market in Chicago. What I am specifically looking for would be a spreadsheet with all of the projects availability included: how many total units and how many units available. Going through every single condo complex to gather this information would be quite a time consuming endeavor I would imagine.

Yes. It's called MLSNI. Not only can you get complete information about a specific complex or building, but also any general area. It's access to tax records helps you include sales that didn't go through the Multiple Listing Service.

Of course, you'll need a member of the service (a Realtor) that has the access and know-how to navigate for the information for which you are looking.
