two years running. Unfortunatley, I've been in this field for 5 years (since graduating) and I'm ready for a change. I've heard commercial real estate agents can make 750K to 1mill a year? My current compensation is nearly $450K a year to $250k (bad year). Am I crazy for giving this up? I have enough saved to withstand a slow first year. Thanks

You are not crazy! If you are passionate about comercial real estate, and if you are willing to put in the time, you will make it! I worked for ABC television - was in the industry for years - the single top producer - was told I was CRAZY to leave. My first year selling residential I was the top producer in my office. Why? I am passionate and I put in the time to make it happen. Decide what you want - then decide you want it! Good luck!

HI Tracy:

From what I observed, most of the Realtors on Trulia are residential Realtors. You might want to talk to a few large commercial brokerage firms to find out more about the investment and rewards.

I do hear that the good thing about coommercial is that it's in some way, easier than residential real estate as they are mostly numbers driven rather than emotional, and once you make a great deal, you can enjoy that for years to come.

However, I will only be talking from what I hear, not what I know.

So, to find out more, go and talk to the source - that's the only way to find out if something as big as this works for you!

Although the other thing you must know is that if you work hard enough, have the passion, and believe enough, you can be successful in anything!

Best,
Sylvia

I would heartily agree with Jonathan, Find that commercial agent making $750,000+ - I promise that it took more than a year for them to reach that level - I would guess 5 to 7 years. If you are really looking for a change - you can become licensed and learn the Real Estate industry while maintaining your current position - especially if you have some flexibility and control over your schedule. Get to know some agents personally and get the real scoop - Best wishes!
