As mentioned David, you will not pay higher taxes then non residents of Florida but will not be able to declare it as a Homestead and get some of the exemptions, for example.the $50K off the assessed value calculated for taxes. I would suggest to try to purchase a property which HAS a homestead on it so that your taxes prorated at closing on the HUD will be lower for the first year. Fort Myers/Cape Coral has a long history of non-USA residents who have purchased properties which are avery important part of our culture here. When you sell, you will need to pay withholding. There are no additional tax fees for foreign owners of a home in Florida. However, owners of a primary residence in Florida are eligible for savings through the Homestead Act. Non-US citizens homeowners are not eligible for the homestead exemption.

NO higher taxes.

You will pay you tax at same rate as other property owners based on the value of your property.
