Close to the intersection of Brodie & Slaugter Lane is a lovely neighborhood called Shady Hollow. The homes are 1700SF to 3400SF and were built between 1975-2007. These home sites vary from just under a half acre to some with 1-3 acres. The majority of the homes are about a half acre and prices start in the low to mid $200's . I have lived in Shady Hollow the last seven years and I love it. Its close enough to downtown, but still far enough out that you don't feel crammed into a tiny house on a tiny lot. It has a spacious welcoming feeling. There is a well maintained community pool and community center with monthly garden club meetings and many other seasonal events. We have a monthly community newsletter to keep you on top of neighborhood events. If you are interested in Shady Hollow just drop me a note and I would be happy to assist you to find your next home.
Bubba neighborhood-goats and/or old appliances/broken down cars on the property. I've looked in areas that have almost new $500k homes next to houses that look like amateur junk yards.
Price range is $325k or less
Buda, Kyle and Wimberley are too far out of Austin proper
I do not know your price range or your definition of "nice", but the link below will take you to a list of homes currently for sale in areas 10N, 10S and SWW that have at least .4 acres. This should give you a good idea of your options.
Their are some areas in the city of Sunset Valley which is just south of Ben White. Also in a city called Manchaca which is down around Slaughter there are some big lots. In addition to that there are some big lots spread out throughout the south area.
