Hi Alun,

The township has higher prices, but that's due to much larger lot sizes and less mixed land uses. If you live in the borough, your neighbors will be closer and you might be closer to noise and commercial influences. Hence a lower value. But if you can find a nice home on a quiet street, the value and marketability will be just as good as the township.

I agree with Marc, Chatham Township has bigger homes with more land. Chatham Boro the homes are smaller and closer to the center of town...walk to town and train are possible. Both are great resale and value...depending on the type of lifestyle you'd like. The schools have good ratings. Give me a call to discuss, I know these towns well and can be reached on 973-214-5872. Chatham NJ, whether the Boro or the Township are in the top 12 best places to live in the United States!
Great Schools, low crime, the Township offers more open space and the Boro offers Main Street
and all the feeling of an American hometown.
There are about over 10,000 residents in the Township and about over 9,000 resdents in the Boro.
The CHATHAMS are located 25 miles west of New York City on the southern edge of Morris County.
What a great place to want to live in!

Chatham Township has larger properties and homes in general than the Boro. Many of the Boro properties are within short distance to town & train. The Township has a more rural ambience than the Boro, is no sidewalks, mail delivered at street mailbox. Both have pools and playgrounds. The Chathams share school districts so at the Jr and Sr High School level the children are educated together. The 2 have separate governments and the individual websites will shed some light on your question.

Well, friend, contrary to the previous response, and as a resident of the Chathams for over 21 years, I have found that people are people, some snooty, some not, some overweight, others thin, tall ones, short ones: I think you get my drift. There is no behavioral difference between folks from the two towns which share the same name. Funny though, the closer to walking distance to the train station in the borough, the more desirable the homes, and, thus, the more folks are willing to pay (overpay, some would say) for such a geographical advantage. There are limited parking spaces at the train station and no longer a jitney to ferry folks back and forth to outlying neighborhoods. Desire, my friend, is in the eyes of the beholder, don't you think? Come take a look for yourself and determine what is best for you and the family. My pleasure to show you around.

The Township has more snooty people, the borugh more working class people who go into the city. If you need a realtor, try Town and Country realty in Chatham. They have a good handle on things. Alot of realtors who are "experts" from out of town really dont have a clue. If you want to know whats really going on hire a realtor who specialize in Chatham
