House Values in Historic District of New Rochelle

Asked by Rmr, Mon May 19, 2008

I wanted to get a general sense of the house values in Rochelle Park/Heights, for a large recently renovated home. Thank you in advance.

Hi - having just sold a home in the Historic District, I would love to comment ... Firstly, there are not many recently renovated homes in the area, but I will not intrude on your privacy...The Historic District is wonderful... Having lived in New Rochelle for 30 years, I have seen firsthand how the residents of New Rochelle in seeing property values rise in past years throughout the area , have sought some of the older - less expensive homes in the Historic District in which to buy and renovate... However, with the housing boom, the properties were more sought after simply because they needed renovation, but then the homes became more expensive, and the entire area rose in price. We have many famous people living in the area and as a resident I am very proud to have a Historic District... Now fast forward to 2008, and the market softening.. Still very stable in New Rochelle - we are holding our own.. but not rising to great heights as in the past. If you have renovated your home, be reasonable in your asking price... or hold on to y our proeprty until the market surges once again - it might take a few years though... if your price is right - it will sell. With regard to house values- it all depends on size, location (is it near I-95?) and the amount of renovation you have undertaken. Good luck!
