for Charlotte. I live in an extremely safe area of Long Island, NY. Is crime isolated in Charlotte or does it spill over to the suburbs? I would love to have a big home in a wonderful community but not at the expense of safety for my family. any suggestions?

Shirley! Welcome to North Carolina! I am a Long Island transplant myself. I reside in Huntersville and love it. Where do you live in Long Island? When are you coming to look for a home? Let's get a cup of coffee and I can tell you about all the great spots that will bring NY memories when you move here.
homesbyconger@bellsouth.net is my email - let me know when you are coming!

Shirley,

Like any large city, Charlotte does have some bad areas but overall, I wouldn't say that the suburbs are a safety concern. However, I always find it best for my clients to make up their own mind. Therefore, here's a link to the Town of Huntersville police website and to their crime stats: http://www.huntersville.org/downloads/police/policestats.pdf

If you end up in Davidson, Mooresville or Cornelius, they also can provide you with those same stats on their websites as well or by calling the local department.

There is also another great tool on http://www.moving.com and there, you can find detailed stats on the city you are moving to and even the ability to compare that city to any other city or even to your own. I found that most helpful when I moved to Charlotte because I didn't want a city too different from Annapolis, MD (my former hometown).

Hope this was helpful.

I do not think you have to worry. Huntersville is close to Lake Norman.. Beautiful up here. You can call the local sherriffs department, but I would say the area is normal for any suburb. Charlotte has its great communities that have Neighborhood watches etc. Not all of Charlotte is heavy crime, but like all cities, it does have its areas. I would love to assist you going forward. I can set up an automatic search for you of homes in the areas that you would like to consider. Give me a call on my mobile at 704-607-7514 and lets get started looking....My searches are all by email,, so you can start monitoring the areas and I can assist you also. Love to hear from you..

Big home, wonderful community...that's Huntersville! My husband and I live in Huntersville and crime is not a problem. In fact, you might visit the City Data website (http://www.city-data.com/city/Huntersville-North-Carolina.html) to view recent crime statistics. We have a wonderful community, with great restaurant and shopping options and a fabulous Parks and Recs department with an extensive list of activities for kids and adults, both.

Huntersville has grown considerably in the last 20+ years I have lived here. With that crime does creep in. Most of the crime here is more due to the fact of the easy access to I-77. While there is some concern I would not worry to much about it. Huntersville is one of the most desirable locations in the nation. Another place to chat and get info from the locals is at http://www.queencityarea.net. Good Luck with your move. Once you get here you will realize how great the area is!
