If you would like to be a few miles north of Austin, there is a really nice community called, Lake Forest. It has exceptional Round Rock schools. Very easy access to the new Toll roads. Lots of hike and bike trails, community swimming pool, basketball court, tennis court, and a relaxing pond where you can feed the ducks. Your price range is perfect for the neighborhood! Many of the homes in this neighborhood feature granite, ss appliances, 4 or more bedrooms, media and game rooms. I live and sell in this neighborhood. I have volunteered on the school PTA for ten years. Call me and I can tell you all about the schools and the neighborhood. I will include a link for my web site. Check out my listings in Lake Forest and you will see many pictures of the amenities of the neighborhood.
Congratulations on relocating to Austin, TX! I live in Travis Country in Southwest Austin just off of Southwest Parkway and Mopac. The neighborhood is bordered by the Barton Creek Greenbelt to the north offering many hiking and biking trails. In the summer, you will see many families and bikers cutting their ways through the trails leading down to Twin Falls, one of the most popular natural swimming areas in Austin.
Besides from the surrounding greenbelt, Travis Country amenities include 2 community swimming pools, wading pool, playground, a pond, and 8 lighted tennis courts and 2 basketball courts. Homes in the neighborhood start around $270-500k. The nieghborhood is within the Austin Independant School District (Oak Hill Elementary, O Henry Middle, and Austin High), all highly sought after schools.
See web reference below for more information about Travis Country including 13 homes for sale.
If this sounds a bit too liberal for you, we have more conservative neighborhoods served by Eanes, and the (even better in my opinion) Lake Travis ISD. There are many of these planned and more manicured communities, like Lake Way, Senna Hills, Barton Creek West…
I specialize in 78733, and all the way back east along the Lake into Metro Austin. This is basically, West, Central and South Austin. I don’t work north or east of US 183. Let me know if I can set up a true MLS search for you. Not a branded or filtered search offered by some sites. You can receive listings instantly by email, or have your own web page to sort, save, delete, rank and comment on your listings.
By the way. Welcome! You’ve going to love Austin, at ten months of the year. Summers are brutal. But better than two months of winter, which we have practically none of.
I noticed your question and I work with a lot of people who relocate to the Austin area and am very familiar with the process. Many of my relocation clients found that is very helpful to start searching ahead of time to get an overall idea of the Austin housing market and the area amenities. You can go to my website at http://www.joestan.com and search everything there is to know about Austin. Being an Austinite of over 26 years, I have seen most of the urban and suburban markets develope from the begininng. You may also contact me direct at 512-422-8693 if you would like to discuss the Austin area in person. I hope my information helps and contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
