Bill, Home Buyer in Philadelphia, PA

Frustrated teacher wants to buy a house.

Asked by Bill, Philadelphia, PA Mon Jan 14, 2008

I would like to buy a cheap house in Philly between 3 and 6 months from now. As a teacher I am on a budget, but will have lots of free time this summer for a fixer upper. A rehab would be great, a handyman's special also nice, a starter home, etc. I have tried to make 2 appointments to see houses I noticed on this site and no one from either Realtor has responded, I guess small commissions are no longer worth it in our booming market. I know there are probably lots of houses that would fit my needs that are not listed here and I need help. Do you smell that? There's blood in the water.

I can help! Check out my listings at http://www.cherylshomesforsale.com I have 14 homes to sell and would love to get rid of them. I also show all other agents linsting as well. Talk to you soon!

Have the perfect property for you! Not really a fixer upper but some areas may need some TLC. Check out MLS # 5199157 or call Kim at 267-249-4991

Hi Bill, I'm sure you can tell that it is killing us that no one got back to you. In my area certainly, there is no such thing as a sale which is too small. I am curious how you tried to contact the Realtor's in question? I received an email from someone who was responding in private to an answer I had posted and I almost didn't open it because I was not familiar with the sender. It was that "don't answer unfamiliar emails because they could have a virus" thing. When I did open it I was surprised it had come to me with no notation from Trulia indicating the source. Could that be why no one answered your first requests? Hope you find the help you are seeking soon, if not, maybe you would consider teaching in Massachusetts? Stacey

I understand your frustration, and want to assure you not all agents are as negligent as the ones you have been trying to contact.
I would love the opportunity to have an agent that specializes in the philadelphia area, and one whom works with my company give you a call directly, to help you find the perfect house to fix up.

Its amazing that in the market we are in that any agent wouldn't be chomping at the bit to work with a motivated buyer. Keep plugging away and you will find someone to look after your best interest.

Hi Bill -
You should also check into Teacher Next Door Program through HUD. This is a program that helps teachers, police officers, etc. purchase HUD homes for much less. It's not always easy, but check it out. Also I'm not sure why you are not able to find more help, but I have friends and family in the Philadelphia area and could help you find an agent it you still don't have one. Best of luck.

Sorry about that. It just makes me nuts when people don't respond. I wish I were in your area my agents jump all over leads. Try this web site and you can get a live person on the phone who will patch you into a agent while you are on the line. http://www.weichert.com Good luck
