Question Details

Jim Walker, Real Estate Pro in Carmichael, CA

For Pete Flint and the Trulia techies. I want to retrieve my lost post.

Asked by Jim Walker, Carmichael, CA Mon Sep 24, 2007

I spent twenty minutes crafting a brilliant and elegant answer to a question posted by Sasha regarding an offer that she had made. Because of the mostly unwarranted criticism of her for posting the question, she removed the question while I was writing my post. When I pressed send, my beautiful answer was lost to Trulia's cyber waste bin.
While I understand that it makes sense for Trulia to not post an answer to a deleted question, I am disappointed that I was not afforded the opportunity to save my literary efforts to my own computer's database. Perhaps the answering poster could be warned when a question is being removed so that I could cut and paste my own words into my personal computers storage.
For that particular post, I would appreciate it if you could pull it out of your waste bin and email it to me so that i can reference it when I write my own real estate advice book.

Jim what a fantastic idea. To be able to store your responses on your hard drive would be great with a generic mention of the original posted question. I would love to see an authentic downloadable Trulia file to reference it in your own materials with question posted and one's personal answer. Possibly keep the poster anonymous since it is leaving Trulia's cyberspace and becoming a personal printed reference material? I might be taking your thoughts too far.

Emily and Pete:
I was actually going email privately but saw this. Is it possible to somehow download the questions and answers of one person? And/or put a search function on a profile that only searched the questions of that profiled person? When I first started, I would reference my own previous posts for other similar questions. Now the list is too long to do that.

Thanks,
Ruth

P.S. I'm trying very hard to cut back on my Trulia time. It is so very addictive. Congratulations Trulia.

Sorry to hear about your problem, I can understand your frustration.
We hope this is an isolated incident as it is very rare that questions are removed.
We'll look this, to see if there is a solution to stop this happening again.

Jim, I guess you will have to reconstruct it, since everyone wants to read it!

Jim,
Ditto to all previous responders... I also would appreciate private email of your post to Sasha if you are able to retrieve it. Are you really writing a RE Book--or are you just being witty here? If so, I can't wait to see that either!

Heather,
I love you idea! And no, I don't think you are going too far--although Trulia might! Many of us take our responses very seriously. I'd like easy access/reference to them as well!

Hi Jim. I hope they can retrieve your post from the recycling bin. I experienced the same thing and was equally annyoed. I am sure my answer was not nearly as eloquent as yours, but it was a waste of time nonetheless. I like you idea that a warning should be displayed when an answer is removed or Trulia should implement a mechanism that prevents deletion when someone is typing an answer.
I too would like to see your crafty response. I always enjoy reading your answers.

I want to know about your real estate advice book. Also, I am curious about your crafty reply. Can you send it to me if you get it back from Trulia?

Dear Pete,
I kindly ask you to seriously consider Heather's suggestion, my second, and Ruth's third... I'm pretty sure you had no idea when you started "Voices" that so many of us would take it to heart. I, too, am beyond addicted! I thank you for your active involvement, and will attempt to be patient with the growing pains of Trulia Voices... So, Pete, thank you, on behalf of consumers and real estate pros alike, for making Voices a reality!

Jim,
So sorry your literary brilliance has been lost to cyberspace... If you do indeed reconstruct such, please email it to me directly. Thanks!

Even if you don't get your answer back, isn't it cool that Pete actually is involved enough to comment. Seriously.

Thank you Emily for looking into this. I can understand why Sasha removed her question. Some people were giving her a hard time for asking it, rather than answering. But I actually gave a detailed and insightful answer. I have a showing this afternoon, so If I have to reconstruct my answer from memory I will do so after Emily confirms that it is hopeless to retrieve it . Email me if you want a copy, as I do not intend to repost it here.
