The popular media tends to still characterize the South as being redneck and behind the times, still fighting The War of Northern Aggression, but it's not true. We do still refer to folks from up north as Yankees, but it's in a loving tone of voice since we're outnumbered now.
Many of my relocating clients have discovered neighbors from their hometowns. In fact, my husband is from a small town in New York, Jamestown (pop about 30,000) and he runs into folks here all the time who have moved into the sun. Thanks for asking!
If you need relocation assistance, please let me know...

The only thing that I miss from up north myself was the excellent seafood (having lived right on the Chesapeake Bay) and the horrific traffic. While some believe that its bad here, they have no idea unless they've either dealt with the Beltway or attempted the Long Island Expressway at rush hour.
Hope this helps.
