Well, it depends on what you're used to there. I'm sure it will be a big change either way. I have children in elementary school as well as high school. I think the sport programs are great! Great coaches, discipline and lots of practice... just the way I like it. As far as academics, I feel you get out what you put in. The school district is very big on parent cooperation and assistance. I am a member of the PTA and try to go to meetings whenever I can. I contribute my time, talents, and money too. Herei s a link to the Clark County School Districts website. There is a lot of helpful information there - http://www.ccsd.net/

If you'd like to search for homes in the Henderson area, below is a link to my website. Once there, just click the "MLS Search" link on the left-hand navigation bar. You can select only the Henderson areas and narrow down by bedroom, price, etc.

Feel free to e-mail me if you need anything. I've lived in Henderson since 1989 and have lived in the Las Vegas valley since 1978!

Just one person's opinion...

I was raised in the Midwest and my occupation has required me to live all around our nation. When we decide to have children we decided to move away from Henderson. Due to the transient nature of the population, crime, low moral standards, drug use, drop out rates, etc. In general if a top ten list came out that in some way was measuring family values the area came out on the bottom but managed to top out on the negative lists such as car theft rates...etc. I do not attend church or consider myself to be of the highest moral standards but I watched the lifestyle/ values of Vegas corrupt many families.

Best of luck and consider your choices carefully…why move a child near their last year of high school?

Welcome to Las Vegas Brenda. Your question is so important because it balances the decision to relocate to Nevada with the opportunity for your children to receive a prominent education. In addition to reviewing greatschools.net please also refer to http://www.schoolmatters.com/schools.aspx/q/page=hm?gclid=CN…

It is my recommendation that you decide what location of the city will best suit your employment and social needs, If you are flexible there are better opportunities to zero in on the exact school system that will best serve you. In the link schoolmatters.com you will be able to rank schools by Math, Reading and Science Scores along with having average class size and total school enrollment information. We also have a number of year around schools that add to your decision.

I suggest you make out a list for your children based upon their ages, skill sets, class subject needs, present grades, potential career choices and sport, academic and social participatory interests .

Then make a trip to Las Vegas with the objective to interview school systems and faculties and some parents that have first hand experience. Based upon the residential location we will be able to formulate your best relocation strategies. Thank you for your interest and I would be privileged to provide my real estate and community knowledge to effect a smooth transition to Nevada from Wisconsin. i relocated from Michigan so we have similar Mid Western Values and requirements. Thank you for an outstanding and extremely important question. Best Always Steven

Hi Brenda,

Some of the schools within the Clark County School District are truly first rate. The Clark County School District I believe is somewhere around the 5th largest school district in the nation, so the schools within the district tend to run the gamut, but there are some ranked among the highest in the country.

For example, GreatSchools.net currently ranks Coronado High School (near the Seven Hills area in Henderson) their highest rating, 10 out of 10. There are many high schools throughout the valley that offer great programs for a truly diverse body of students. I definitely suggest checking out http://greatschools.net to check out test score comparisons, reviews, etc.

Best wishes on your search and your relocation to our great area. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll help you out in any way that I can.

All the best,
