Is this home in a bad area/bad schools? (Antioch)

I LOVE this property, but I'm unsure of the location. I've heard some parts of Antioch aren't too bad.

You are correct, there are some parts of Anitoch that are not as nice as others. This particluar proprty is sort of on the line. It is very close to the "good part" but still around some not-so-great parts such as townhomes and apartments. I live close to this part of Nashville and am very familiar with it. I can give addresses of what areas we used to live, maybe that might paint a better picture of the area I'd be looking in... 223 Sailboat Dr. (at the time) really outdated, but had that awesome split-level plan. And 1109 Sebetha Ct. we actually build that new. Drove by that one a few years ago, saw they finished in the garage.

It's funny that Stephanie shares that opinion about critics. I was in a meeting last week of REALTORS who tend to focus moreso on luxury properties. Antioch was actually a topic of conversation...how that so many buyers are taking a serious look at Antioch for the value and diversity of stock. In fact, two agents reported that they had lost homes in multiple offers in that area.

Antioch certainly has it's share of critics, but it offers affordable housing, convenience to the city and plenty of shopping. For your info, this home was purhcased by an investor last year for just 45k. It has been completely renovated. This is a small complex of about 25 units. There aren't any comparable properties in this complex to justify a list price of 107k. The most expensive unit to sell to date was a smaller 3 bedroom unit for 81k. There have, however, not been many sales in the complex in recent years. I can tell you that is it the most affordable 4 bedroom condo in all of Nashville right now.

And in answer to the Antioch question...I lived there (more recently than 20 years ago). It has it's ups and downs. I will tell you this, from where I stand, Nashville (as a city) seems to be giving up on Antioch. The mall is a ghost town. The schools aren't getting the same funding as other areas - seriously, you're gonna get lockjaw playing on the chipped/rusty playground equipment while crieve hall elementary just got a brand new covered basketball court. And, I hear there are plans to level Hickory Hollow Mall and build Section 8 Housing - around here that's called projects...now that downtown has become a desirable place to live again, the government needs somewhere to stick the less fortunate. Not that I have anything against the less fortunate, but if you've ever lived in or around the projects, you know the crime that comes along with it

ok, question... What exactly constitutes being a "bad area"? I lived there as a child (which was 20 years ago), and it wasn't a bad area then, but.. like are we talking gangs? or crime? or what exactly? Because, right now I live in Blissfield, MI. which is a small town, but little crime. I don't make alot of money, but I want to make sure my kids are going to be safe. Someone described it as "that's where all the apts. and condo's are" like that was a bad thing. I'd kinda like to have a condo, so I don't have to deal with yard work. I guess what I'm asking is what exactly is so bad about antioch? And I want details... I know my brother got bussed to Cameron middle school, and I do not want that. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

all areas of nashville have good and bad spots...its what i like about it...lots of variety. i have several friends who live in antioch and like it.

Antioch is a diverse community. I owned property there and the area does appeal to many homeowners because most every service is so readily available . The councilperson is very active in the community and the majority of homeowners take pride in their community as well. Antioch is seeing a resurgence in recent times as evidenced by the new subdivisions. I recently listed a very attractive 3 bedroom / 2 bath Condo located on a peaceful cul-de-sac at 3015 Baby Ruth Lane. Antioch has it's share of issues, however, that does not make it a bad area.
