Heating and plumbing in Easton...

Asked by CT, Trumbull, CT Sat Apr 11, 2009

My wife and I are considering on moving from Trumbull to Easton, but we've noticed that many of the home listings state that that the homes are heated by electricity. Is this just a fluke? We prefer homes with gas heating. Any comments? Seth & Mary

Easton has two zones, the 1 & 3 acre areas. It is a rural/farming community that frowns on any commercial activity. For that reason, and the fact that large portions of the residential developement that occured in Easton, happened during the 50's & 60's, when the Electric Companies were pushing their cheap electricity programs, that turned out to be a mistake, there are large percentages of properties that have electric heat. It is cheaper for the builder to put in, but, sadly, not for the home owner. There are very few natural gas lines in Easton. But, one can always put an oil tank in the basement and a new furnace. It is a buyers market. You have every right to make your point to the seller through your broker, and get the price reduced by the cost of adding oil heat.{There is also propane heat}. Hope that helps. Stephanie Thompson 203-913-4500.

Hi Seth & Mary,

We just did a search of homes listed for sale in Easton and specified homes without electric heat. There are currently 76 homes listed that meet that criteria and only 7 homes with electric heat. The homes with electric heat are in a very wide price range ($399,000 to $1,750,000).

There are 10 homes listed for sale in Easton that have gas heat.

Please feel to contact us about sending you these homes. We're happy to forward them to you.
