Tulasi, Home Buyer in 07095

Is there any general way to know what area's come under a School district?

Asked by Tulasi, 07095 Mon Feb 9, 2009

Hi All,

I wanted to buy a house in a school district. How can I know how far ( physical distance )I can go to buy in that school District.

Is there way to know what areas are covered under a School district.

Example 08820 is NORTH Edison, School is JP STEVENS. students come to that from around it. How far a
student can come to it. Is it students only in 08820 come there or surrounding to 08820. Is there any way we can know about it before buying a house ..

Thanks............

Tulasi,

This is an excellent question......

School district boundaries can be decieving and unclear at best. The best resource for a clear understanding of the district boundaries is the school itself.

Listening to other people or speculating is risky business and should be avoided. Many individuals in the past have made costly mistakes by assuming a home was in a specific district....only to find, they were wrong.

Don't be one of those people.

Yeti,
If the listing agent isn't sure of the school district he/she should NEVER list the school district, nor should they indicate/advertise it is in one school district when they know it's in another. That is misrepresentation and subject to ethics violations on the part of the listing agent. If asked, the agent should get the accurate info for the potential buyer.

Perhaps in Princeton you are mistaking the MLS LISTING area (which does not break it down into smaller school districts / zip codes) for the school district information which is always found in a separate area of the listing.

Often times the listing agent tries to address the property to attract buyers. One great example is Princeton. Many listing agents would put down the address as Princeton but the school district is either be Montgomery or West Windsor. If school district is of importance to you, be very careful and do your own due diligence.

You are VERY welcome. Also the basic line for JP stevens is north of Rt 27 is JP and south of Rt 27 is Edison high, but the lines wiggle a bit so it's always better to ask. Now can I hep you find a house?? :)

Since the lines of demarcation are all over the place, if I am not sure, I just call the Edison Board of Education for my clients, give them the address, get the school information, and also ask if there is free bussing, pay bussing or no bussing for my clients. Its simple.

Hi Tulasi,

MY name is Hezal Patel from C21 John Anthony & will like to help you. Most of the Indian parents wants to have 08820 school for better education. I understand your concern because we all gone through it. Anyway if you are working with any Realtor then they will answer all these question otherwise it's simple.
Choose any house you like on Internet then go to http://businessfinder.nj.com/NJ-Edison/School-Districts or Edison Board of Education (732) 452-4900 (312 Pierson Ave, Edison, NJ 08837) for more satisfaction.
Since my office has in North Edison and most of our clients are looking for North Edison only so i will saw clients house then call above number to make sure that area has bus coming to pick up kids otherwise you get to drop them.

Please feel free to contact me for any more questions.

Sure, North Edison has zip code 08820 but there are some other street which are North Edison but they are under 08817 zip code, let your agent confirm you and also you can reconfirm by calling Edison school board and confirm which school is affilated to that neighborhood before you sign the contract.
Good luck!!

Quite often our MLS system will list which school district a house falls under so you should ask your Realtor but the best thing to do to call the school district. They will know better than anyone.

If I wanted to know I would contact the school - but, if you work with a real estate agent they can use the school as part of the search criteria either by the MLS search or by looking at each listing separately. I don't think a circumferenc around the school address would work to identify the zone. Here's a link to the school:

Good Luck!
