I hope this information is helpful for you. If you would like more information about schools, you can go to our website and click on the button for North County Schools. This will help give you a clearer picture of the areas of Carlsbad and what schools are where, depending uon if you are needing elementary, middle, or high school.

I just wanted to include something that was left out. The 92011 zip code actually has two elementary schools--Aviara Oaks Elementary and Pacific Rim Elementary. Both have high test scores but they each actually have a bit of a different feel. You should definitely visit each school if you are interested in moving to this zip code. The boundaries are a little bit strange in some neighborhoods, and there are a few neighborhoods where kids go to both schools (this is due to grandfather clauses that were put in place when Pacific Rim first opened). I too think it smart to interview the Principals of both schools.
As for the middle school, Aviara Oaks Middle School, it is the only one in the zip code, as is Carlsbad High School. However, the new high school (no name yet) is slated to open in the Fall of 2013. It will have only a Freshman and Sophomore class at that time, increasing by a class each subsequent year. Boundaries have not been presented yet for the new school but the district is working on it.
I believe all the other information below is very accurate, so take your time and speak with staff and teachers, parents and Principals and see what you think. I have children in both elementary and middle school in the zip code, and I am very involved with both schools. I will be happy to try and provide further information if you like.
Of course, there are three other zip codes in Carlsbad and each has different elementary and middle schools, and some different high schools as well. In your price range you should be able to find properties in all these zip codes, so if you are focused on a particular school you may want to gather all the information first and then focus on where you will look for a home, so that you can be in that boundary.
Best of luck,

P.S. Based on the 92011 zip code that is indicated by your name, and the $800k price range, you're looking at Aviara, which is Aviara Oaks Elementary and Middle Schools and Carlsbad High. You might want to consider the Rancho Carrillo area - way more for your money - as well as La Costa Valley, which is a wonderful community with many features and ammenities, with fantastic schools. Let me know if you'd like specific information about these or other areas as you are searching!
Carlsbad is divided into 3 High School Districts: Carlsbad Unified, San Dieguito (South Carlsbad through Del Mar) & San Marcos. The Del Mar/Carmel Valley High Schools get the highest scores, primarily due to demographics in the area. Carlsbad High & La Costa Canyon (where my Granddaughter goes), have very good scores and then San Marcos is somewhat less. Carlsbad is slated to get a new HS in 2012. http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/jan/02/1mc2cbad2
Then you have to look at the various JHS & Elementary districts within the HS boundaries. They will vary in range more than the HS do.

The most important thing for you is what your family values. Will you or your child feel out of place if they do not have a Mercedes or BMW to drive to school? You need to take those values into consideration when choosing a school and a neighborhood. That can be done by talking to parents and teachers and school administrators. I have had clients interview the Principals.
Most Realtors can direct you to property in a particular school or district but you must let them know which one(s).
