Dear Alun:
Soccer has become a well received sport for all kids in Morris County. Both my girls have played for years in Denville HUB. Great program, well organized with tremendous travel program and free clinics all year round. Plus the community is terrific. So think Denville as an alternative and give me a call for any of your real estate needs.

Alun,

If your family is really crazy about soccer, I strongly suggest California. But if so-so soccer programs (not national level) are fine by you, just live in any of the nearby towns in Morris County (Chatham, Madison, Florham Park, Hanover). Morris county towns have lower tax rate. Millburn/Short Hills is part of Essex County and the county tax is much higher because well...one of the reasons is Newark is part of Essex county. Once you're in NJ and in your opinion, Millburn is supposedly better in socer youth program, who cares? You can just drive your kids over there as it's just a few minutes away.

Alun-
Obviously you should check out both areas for yourself. Chatham has great programs for the boys as well as girls. Great rivalries exist between Chatham and Summit and other local towns. Chatham was also just ranked as the #9 town to live in across the US. It has a great downtown, train into NYC - and a nice quality of life. There are also quite a few Europeans here who share your soccer passion! Are you working with a relocation company to bring you over here?

If you consider a little further south the Princeton and Hopewell areas are also very good with many traveling teams as well as rec teams. (my 9 year old is playing now as well as the typical fall season) There is also indoor league for year round playing and Princeton is such an international area they have other kids from all over the world playing here.

Both have excellent programs. Since Millburn is in Essex County there may be a slight higher level of competition. Perennial top soccer high schools in Harrison and Kearney are close by.
