Relocating to North Atlanta--Can't decide b/t White Columns and Laurel Springs Country Club

Asked by Amy, Alpharetta, GA Sat May 31, 2008

We are desperate for advise. We love White Columns for the large lots, beauty of the neighborhood, and quality of the country club, but also love Laurel Springs for its conveniences located just outside of the neighborhood. My husband will be working in John's Creek so Laurel Springs is very close, but he also doesn't mind a 30-40 minute commute. We are thinking that WC will be a better long-term real estate investment b/c of the restrictions on development in that area and the quality of schools. However, we keep thinking LS will offer easier living due to all of the conveniences surrounding the neighborhood. HELP!!!

You cannot miss with either neighborhood. We live in Laurel Springs and do the morn commute to Kings Ridge Christian School located near WC. The commute for your husband will put him in traffic. You'll have more time together if you select Laurel Springs. You mentioned the surrounding shopping...its wonderful. You'll also find the new Johns Creek Lifetime Fitness another plus. Currently there are a few nice foreclosures in LS. Good luck!!

I live in the Johns Creek/Laurel Spring area and it is a wonderful area with great schools, parks and recreational areas and very close to Lake Lanier. Also the taxes are very good compared to Fulton County. The commute from White Columns could be a nightmare in the morning traffic. If you value your quality of life, then you really should think about the Laurel Springs area. The community is great and so is the golf. Also, you might want to check out St. Marlo too which is also a gated golf community in this area too.

Sounds like the consensus is White Columns. I would have to agree with that. I think that the fact that it is NOT near the conveniences is a great plus.

Think about it. You like White Columns for the larger lots, the better atmosphere.... all because you like more open spaces. Home is where you go to relax. If you wanted convenience, then Laurel Springs is it, but it's also buying a different lifestyle.

My suggestion is WC, BECAUSE it's less convenient.

Dear Steven and Tascha,
When you send listings from FMLS, the link to the FMLS neighborhoods isn't available--that can only be accessed by agents. I don't know why--it seems like it would be a good thing for FMLS to include. Maybe we should all recommend it to them.

When you are emailed direct links from FMLS, click on FMLS neighborhoods to get all neighborhood statistics. Also go to http://www.schoolmatters.com for more school information.
Make sure your agents are full time! This way they should be able to put full effort into helping you!
Good Luck

Hi Amy,
Having recently relocated to North Atlanta myself, I can completely sympathize with your situation! Just by reading your question, I would have to say White Columns will be better for your family long term. And even short term, as that part of Alpharetta is certainly up and coming, and frankly not far at all from many conveniences. I have a listing in Hopewell Plantation, and have found from my home in Roswell, the trip takes about 15 minutes. I do take the back roads, and pass several new shopping plazas on the way.

I would love to help you narrow down your selection. Please let me know if you need more specific advise!

Hello Amy,

I am a Golf Professional and a Realtor with a focus on Golf communities. My personal opinion would be White Columns for the golf course location and the membership. Traffic will be an issue around Laurel Springs. Please give me a call if you have any questions about the differences in the clubs.

Thank you,
